In a rather quiet bit of news this morning, Nintendo has announced that it has branded its previously owned WARPSTAR Inc. subsidiary into Nintendo Stars Inc. The company became a “consolidated subsidiary” on April 1st, 2025, and has been responsible for “ancillary-use business tied to films that feature Nintendo Intellectual Property.” In other words, Nintendo Stars is the company responsible for expanding Mario into movies or even producing new merchandise for stores.
A press release from Nintendo of Japan reads, “By implementing and licensing various ancillary uses in films, Nintendo Stars Inc. aims to familiarize people around the world with Nintendo IP and provide new ways to experience it. In addition, Nintendo Stars Inc. will continue its ancillary-use business of the Kirby franchise, which WARPSTAR, Inc. has been engaged in.” Maybe the company was originally centered on Kirby, but is now expanding?
What does this mean for the future? Well, we already know Nintendo is working with Universal on a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and a live-action Zelda film will be released in 2027. Nintendo Stars will likely have all kinds of marketing campaigns planned out for both films, not to mention might be trying to work its magic to get other franchises on the big-screen. Instead of relying on luck and patience, Nintendo now has a specific arm of its company that will broker this deals.
