As Hollywood is so keen to do, a sequel to 2023’s Five Nights at Freddy’s was greenlit even before the first film had finished its opening weekend. Being a fairly big hit, it did make sense we’d see a continuation, and production house Blumhouse Films is doing just that. The big twist this time? Freddy and his pals are roaming the city streets.
The trailer doesn’t really set up anything you wouldn’t already know if you have even a cursory understanding of FNAF. Some people find the original restaurant location, get attacked by animatronics, and generic horror music plays. Oooo, spooky! Again, the big hook here is that Freddy somehow manages to escape his prison and take his evil spree on the road.
For a series that has become incredibly overplayed at this point, FNAF has some deep lore. There’s all kinds of evil plans and interconnected storylines that the games became way more about plot than scares. This filmic sequel seems to at least be dialing that back, though a little girl being told to awaken some animatronics through a speak-and-spell is a bit much.
Anyway, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be hitting theaters on December 5th, 2025. May god have mercy on us.
