While it’s still exceptionally early in the Switch 2’s lifecycle, it seems Nintendo has another certifiable hit on its hands. According to new information from Circana’s Mat Piscatella, the Switch 2 has debuted as the fastest-selling console in US history. Thanks to tremendous hype, the console moved 1.6 million units in the US in June alone, with first-month sales globally totaling around 3.5 million. The release of Nintendo’s latest console also helped propel consumer spending on both video game hardware and accessories to an all-time high for June.

Most people won’t care about the specific numbers, but there are some interesting stats to go along with Nintendo’s historic victory. US video game market spending for June 2025 increased 22% from a year ago, though the overall year-to-date spending is lagging behind 2024’s total during the same period. Hardware spending increased 249%, though this is almost entirely because of the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch. People also spent more on buying games last month, though again, the primary driver behind that growth was the Switch 2.

As for the top games of June 2025, it’s interesting that Nintendo only shows up once in the top 20. According to Circana’s data, Elden Ring: Nightreign was the overall best-selling title for June, while Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came in second. Mario Kart World wound up in third, and while we don’t have discrete numbers, it should be noted that Nintendo does not include digital numbers in its sales figures. It will be interesting to learn if Mario Kart is selling better digitally, which might indicate that people are grabbing the Switch 2 bundle instead of the physical version (which comes with a $30 increase for the game).
