Somehow, Super Mario Run is still getting updates nine years after it first released. Despite initially not being that big of a success for Nintendo, its first foray into mobile gaming has remained available on the Google Play and Apple App stores all this time. I guess enough people have downloaded it over the last decade to justify doing periodic updates that promote upcoming games, much like the latest update centered around Donkey Kong Bananza.
Players who log in from now until August 28th, 2025, will be able to complete some new challenges based on DK’s latest outing and receive rewards for it. There are three new pages of missions that will task players with collecting X amount of coins, defeating X amount of enemies, etc. They aren’t the most creative missions, but once you clear everything out, you’ll have some new DK rewards to adorn in your kingdom.
- Donkey Kong Missions
- Pauline Missions
- Void Missions
While not the most substantial of updates, it does fall in line with previous Super Mario Run events from the last few years. We’ve seen themed items from Super Mario Party Jamboree, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, and even Super Mario Bros. Wonder wind up in the mobile spinoff. I guess since pretty much everyone has a smartphone, Nintendo figures this is a good way to promote the Switch 2 with barely any extra cost… either that or someone at Nintendo is a really big fan of Run and wants it to become a thing.
