Elden Ring Tarnished Edition was one of the biggest profile third-party releases announced for the Switch 2 during Nintendo’s big Direct unveiling earlier this year. While Steam Deck players have been able to take the game on the go for quite some time, it’s still pretty magical to see a game as big as Elden Ring running on a portable console. That Nintendo finally has a device strong enough to handle it means players of a certain type won’t need to miss out on FromSoftware’s new age classic. Still, when is the game coming out?
If a recent ESRB rating is anything to go by, Elden Ring Tarnished Edition could be here in a matter of weeks.
As you can see on the official ESRB website, the Switch 2 edition of Elden Ring now has a rating and official summary. Rated M, which was pretty obviously going to be its rating, the description reads:
“ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Language, Suggestive Themes, and Violence. Also includes In-Game Purchases. This is an action role-playing game in which players assume the role of a character trying to retrieve a magical ring and become the Elden Lord. From a third-person perspective, players explore environments, collect items, and battle various enemies (e.g., knights, fantastical creatures) in melee combat. Players use swords, spears, axes, arrows, and magic to enemies; combat is highlighted by cries of pain, splatters of blood, and impact sounds. The game includes depictions of gore: collectible items that include severed fingers and tongues; a boss character cutting off its arm; severed arms hanging from a ceiling. During the course of the game, a humanoid monster is depicted partially nude, with scales/scars covering its breast and pelvic regions. The word “sh*t” appears in the dialogue.”
There’s nothing else revealing about this description, so if you’re waiting to hear about the specific quirks of the Switch 2 port of Elden Ring, you’ll need to hang on. I doubt the port will be sloppy, but I also wouldn’t expect it to hang with its current-gen counterparts. Elden Ring is troublesome even on PC hardware, so there’s bound to be some performance issues for Switch 2 users.
