While Nintendo Switch 2 stock here in America seems to be mostly acceptable, that hasn’t been the case for other countries. In Japan, in particular, it seems that eager customers have not been able to acquire the console for the past month, which can be frustrating when you want to get your hands on the newest piece of tech. In an attempt to remedy the situation, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa apologized to shareholders for Switch 2 shortages while stating that Nintendo will continue to hold lottery raffles for customers going forward.

“Currently, in many countries, the demand for Switch 2 exceeds the supply, and we are unable to meet it,” Furukawa said to shareholders (spotted by @Nstyles on Twitter). “We understand that some shareholders have also been unable to obtain it. We started accepting lottery sales at My Nintendo Store in April. The response far exceeded our expectations, and I announced in my name on X that there were 2.2 million applicants, along with an apology.”

Furukawa explained that while Nintendo has conducted four lottery sales already, it will be adding another lottery in July for those that wish to enter. Stores across Japan are also starting to receive more stock, which should lead to the console becoming more readily available to retailers. “As a company, we are working to improve our production system to deliver as many units as possible,” Furukawa wrote before stating that demand far exceeded supply.

Many pundits thought the increased price of the Switch 2 would be a detriment to its early success, but the console has already cleared 3.5 million units in its first week of sale. While we don’t have any updated numbers, the console has possibly eclipsed 4 million units already and in Japan, the numbers passed 1.2 million. Even if it’s hard to find, the Switch 2 is off to a ridiculously good start.
