In a strange bit of news this morning, Limited Run Games has asked Nintendo to remove its recently released GEX Trilogy from the Switch 2 eShop while it waits on the submission process for a new patch to go live. With Juneteenth having been yesterday, it seems that patch approval is a bit delayed and Limited Run cannot clarify when its compatibility patch will be available for GEX. As such, it would like Nintendo to remove the game from sale for Switch 2 owners so that they don’t buy a title that doesn’t work properly.
For those unaware, the Nintendo Switch 2 features backward compatibility with Switch 1 games, but due to the titles running through a compatibility layer, not every original Switch title runs perfectly. Most are fine, but there have been some issues Nintendo and third-parties have had to work through to ensure its games run well. Limited Run is a notable one as before a recent firmware update this week, a solid selection of its games had encountered issues. The Switch 2 firmware update 20.1.5 resolved most issues with the majority of Limited Run’s games. Sadly, GEX Trilogy is still suffering some problems.
While that is unfortunate, Limited Run has clarified that the following releases should be working as intended on the Switch 2 now:
- Clock Tower: Rewind
- Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection
- Tomba! Special Edition
- River City Girls Zero
- A Boy and his Blob Collection
- Rocket Knight Adventures
- Shantae
- Bill & Ted’s Excellent Retro Collection
- Xtreme Sports
- Trip World DX
- Felix the Cat
- Rendering Ranger R-2: Rewind
