Revealed in today’s Donkey Kong Bananza Direct, we’ll be seeing (or hearing) voice acting in the upcoming platformer! If you recall, Pauline was the singer of Jump Up, Super Star in Super Mario Odyssey. Bananza has already established that this younger version of Pauline is a singer, utilizing her talents to help DK transform and gain new abilities.
Pauline has also been shown to have full voice lines as well as songs, while other characters shown have minor voice lines.
- Kate Higgins will reprise her role as Pauline, a role she’s voiced since Super Mario Odyssey.
- Kôji Takeda is the new voice for DK, appearing in Mario Kart World and now in Bananza.
- It looks like Takashi Nagasako, the former voice of DK, is now voicing Cranky Kong! That makes me feel happy.
- Kaoru Sasajima continues voicing Dixie Kong, who we haven’t seen in a game since Mario Kart Tour.
- Finally, Toshihide Tsuchiya will voice Funky Kong, another character we haven’t seen for a while.
It’s exciting to have voice acting in this new game! Voice acting always adds another layer and when it’s done well, it can have a huge impact. Let’s hope this is a new wave for Nintendo and we can get VAs for other major franchises like Pokémon. (PLEASE???)
