As has been tradition for many Nintendo games at this point, Mario Kart World has a hidden easter egg containing “Totaka’s Song.” As discovered by some users on Reddit, the various characters in Mario Kart World will start to hum if you leave your cursor over them for an extended period of time. Naturally, this led people to staying on Yoshi for an extended bit, and low and behold, there was “Totaka’s Song.” It’s hard to hear over the background music, but Yoshi is very clearly humming it.

Who is Kazumi Totaka?
For those unaware, Kazumi Totaka is a longtime composer for Nintendo that has scored a wide variety of titles for the company. You’ve heard his work in games such as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing, and Yoshi’s Story. Although Totaka’s song isn’t in every game he’s worked on, it appears as an easter egg in so many that searching for it in new Nintendo releases has become a tradition.
The significance behind Yoshi being the character to hum the song is that Totaka has voiced Yoshi since the character first started talking way back in Yoshi’s Story. This same easter egg was also present in Mario Kart 8 with the same steps: just hover over Yoshi on the character select screen and he’ll hum it. That’s a fun little secret for fans.
