The Pokémon franchise has been capturing the imagination of kids and adults across the world for decades now. Of the countless fans out there who grew up with the series, undoubtedly a resounding dream of many was to become a Pokémon Trainer in real life. While Pokémon themselves may not be real, that doesn’t mean that this dream has to go to waste. That’s what the Japanese Boy Scout group thought, as they’re teaming up with Pokémon to host a special program to become a Pokémon Trainer for kids in Japan!
As part of the “Become a Pokémon Trainer!” program, aspiring Trainers will go through a variety of missions to learn what it takes to become a Pokémon Trainer. With lessons in teamwork, respect, and discipline, there’s a lot more that goes into it than just catching Pokémon. The program is available across many regions of Japan, with limited spots for those who want to apply. Schedules for the event range from as soon as next month to all the way into Spring 2026, so that leaves plenty of time for all who are interested to join.
Those who grew up with Pokémon as a childhood favorite can only wish there was something like this around at the time. While Pokémon themselves may still be left to fiction, all the other hard work and life lessons that come from being a Pokémon Trainer can now be experienced for select Japanese Boy Scouts.
