Nintendo Switch 2 has been criticized for a fair amount of things since its full reveal in early April, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo console in the United Kingdom. According to NielsenIQ, the Switch 2 outpaced the original switch by more than double, and beat out the previous record holder, the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo revealed that the Switch sold 80,000 at launch while the 3DS sold 113,000. If NielsenIQ is correct, that means the Switch 2 sold at least 160,000 units at launch, which is an incredible feat.

Note: As of last night, June 10th, we have received confirmation from Nintendo that over 3.5 million units were sold worldwide within the first four days, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console EVER. This is huge news for the new console and for Nintendo. There were worries about a Wii U situation but for now, those fears have been put to rest.

While this is Nintendo’s highest performing launch in the UK, the reigning leader continues to be the PlayStation 5, followed by the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox Series S/X, and Switch 2 coming in 4th. It’s important to note that the tracking period runs from Sunday to Saturday, and the Switch 2 released on a Thursday. Had it released earlier in the week, there’s a good chance it could have ranked higher on the list.

Did you buy a Switch 2 this past week? Or are you waiting to pull the trigger?
