With games continually getting more flashy and exciting as time goes on, sharing clips and recording gameplay has become more popular than ever. There’s little more fun than doing something cool and exciting in the thrill of the moment and getting to share that with friends. While there are a few ways to do this, perhaps the most accessible for Nintendo Switch users was the built-in 30 second recording feature. Going into the Switch 2, many were hoping to see the recording limit extended or otherwise improved in functionality, but it seems that won’t be the case.
The reveal comes via a short video shared on the Nintendo Today app (titled “Sounds of the Nintendo Switch 2 System”), in which for a brief moment the album menu can be seen with a tutorial on how to take screenshots and record videos. The included information mentions that, much like the original Nintendo Switch, the recordings on the Switch 2 are limited to the last 30 seconds. Of course, there’s no word on the actual quality of the recordings; it may very well be that the resolution and frame rate have improved, but that’s merely speculation.
While it’s certainly a shame that the Nintendo Switch 2 won’t be able to record any longer than 30 seconds, it’s at the very least still a good amount of time for a lot of clips. For anything longer, the only options may be to pick up a capture card or to share the screen via GameChat. Still fairly limiting, but it’s a small price to pay for all of the other nice improvements the Switch 2 is bringing.
