Lego has updated its official website with a slew of new Super Mario sets, and they include a number of cool references. While the majority of them are based around Mario Kart (which makes sense considering Mario Kart World is about to release), I never thought we’d see a Lego Captain Toad. It’s also super fun to see Super Mario Bros. Wonder get a shoutout, especially since it was the first side-scroller game in the series after a decade-long wait.
The new Mario Kart sets include “Wario and King Boo,” “Bowser’s Castle,” and the “Interactive Lego Mario & Standard Kart.” Bowser’s Castle comes with Yoshi and Bowser alongside the front gate to Bowser’s castle, which should provide some options for creating custom courses. Wario and King Boo only include some cones and Koopa shells, which is perfectly fine. The interactive Mario and kart is a much bigger set, giving players the original Lego Mario along with his kart and a bunch of items. It’s probably the place to start if you want to recreate Mario Kart in Lego form.
“Prince Florian & Castle Bowser” is a relatively simple set that includes Bowser’s floating castle featured in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a pink Yoshi, Wonder Bowser Jr., and Prince Florian. Seeing as how Mario and Luigi don’t have unique designs in that game, you can easily combine this set with your previous characters and reimagine the Switch game. I’m pretty impressed with how accurate Bowser’s castle looks.
Lastly, the Toad-focused sets include “Captain Toad’s Camp” and “Party at Toad’s House.” I’m in love with the idea that Toad throws parties for his friends, and the little set includes two Toads with a small mushroom house. The Captain Toad set features a campsite, tent, Goomba, and small little obstacle course as well as its titular star, and it’s delightful. We could all use more Captain Toad in our lives.
Each set is now available on the Lego website with varying prices. They seem to be available right now, so you won’t have to deal with pre-orders or stock limitations.
