Nintendo has revealed the first batch of games that will be receiving a free update on the Nintendo Switch 2. These updates will either upgrade the graphics, add new features such as GameShare, or both. Check out the list below to see which games will be getting an update and what it entails! All games listed here will receive the free updates on launch day — June 5th, 2025.
ARMS
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display & high res TVs
- Frame rate: Optimized for Switch 2 for smoother movement, even with 3+ players
- HDR support
Big Brain Academy
- GameShare support, allowing up to four players to play in Party Mode
- Share game locally or online via GameChat (Reminder: Switch 2 system must start GameShare session)
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display and high res TVs
- HDR support
- GameShare support: two can play at once on all courses, able to be shared via GameChat
Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
- GameShare support: up to four can play 34 games, able to be shared via GameChat
Game Builder Garage
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display and high res TVs
- Support for Joy-Con 2 mouse controls
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display & high res TVs
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display & high res TVs
- Frame rate: Optimized for Switch 2 for smoother movement
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display and high res TVs
- Frame rate: Optimized for Switch 2 for smoother movement
- HDR support for Bowser’s Fury mode only
- GameShare support: up to four can play in Super Mario 3D World’s mode, two can play in Bowser’s Fury, able to be shared via GameChat
Super Mario Odyssey
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display and high res TVs
- HDR support
- GameShare support: two can play together, able to be shared via GameChat
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display and high res TVs
- HDR support
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
- Graphics upgrade: optimized for Switch 2’s display & high res TVs
- HDR support
Again, all 12 of these titles will receive the free updates on June 5th, allowing you to play them to their fullest. These updates will launch alongside the paid upgrade packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with upgrade packs for Super Mario Party Jamboree, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond slated for release later this year.
