Ask any Mario Kart fan what they fear most, and the answer will undoubtedly be the infamous Spiny Shell. This iconic item first debuted in Mario Kart 64, and ever since then it has been terrorizing Mario Kart fans with its tenacity to destroy the first place racer. It has become so iconic that it has even gone beyond Mario Kart itself, appearing in Super Smash Bros. and even the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Now, it has even made its way into the real world in the form of a brand-new Lego kit!

Revealed just last weekend, the Spiny Shell set will launch alongside the Mario & Standard Kart kit on May 15th. Upon reveal, many expected the set to be a gift with the purchase of the Mario Kart set, but as it turns out, the Spiny Shell will instead be available via the LEGO Insiders rewards program. It’ll be priced at 2,500 points, which necessitates having spent around $385 on the Lego Store beforehand. While this might seem like quite a hurdle to overcome for a Spiny Shell, the Mario Kart set alone runs for $249.99, so regulars of the Lego Store who have some points saved up shouldn’t have too much trouble picking this one up.

It seems that Mario can’t even get away from the Spiny Shell in LEGO form, to no one’s surprise. For those LEGO Insiders members who are looking to add this iconic item to their collection, be sure to save some points for when it arrives later this week! You won’t want to miss it, that’s for sure.
