Of all of the perks that come with a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, one of the most exciting is the ever-expanding collection of emulators for older systems. Ever since the Nintendo 64 joined the greater NSO library, many fans have been eagerly waiting for the GameCube to get its turn in the spotlight. Lo and behold, during the Nintendo Switch 2 presentation last month it was revealed that the GameCube would be making its debut on NSO as a Switch 2 exclusive. This came with the news of an official wireless GameCube controller being made to go along with it, and thanks to the Nintendo Today app, we now know when it will be available!
In a post on the Nintendo Today app featuring a 3D view of the upcoming wireless GameCube controller, a small excerpt revealed when the controller would be available for order. For those who were invited to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 via Nintendo themselves, the controller will be available starting on May 8th. Then, beginning on May 13th, it will be available for purchase for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers along with the other controllers offered. It’s important to note, the GameCube controller is only compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, so keep that in mind when considering ordering it.
The GameCube library will be arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day, which is June 5th, 2025. If you’ve already got a Switch 2 pre-order locked in and are eager to revisit some of the GameCube’s greatest, then it might be worth picking up this new controller to go along with it. It isn’t required in order to play the GameCube NSO library, but it makes for a convenient way to relive these games as they originally were back in the early 2000s!
