Another day, another rumor about the Switch 2. While we at least know the console is releasing very soon and that Nintendo is gearing up for a pretty big launch, there are still some things about the console that remain uncertain. One such question is whether or not the Nintendo Switch 2’s UI and dashboard will be customizable like how the 3DS was. It’s been an often-requested feature to be added to the current Switch, and despite having an option in settings that lists “themes,” Nintendo has not released anything over the Switch’s eight-year lifespan.

According to Twitter account Switch2Stock, Nintendo’s next console will receive themes starting with firmware update 2.0. This could, allegedly, be delayed until 2.1 or 2.2, but users will be able to customize the UI of their devices whenever the update rolls around. Supposedly, players will be able to unlock themes by using Switch Online platinum points and completing quests. There will also be paid themes available for users who aren’t subscribed to Switch Online, though there is no word if they are exclusive or not.

Now, it must be stated that there is no source for this rumor other than Switch2Stock. None of the information provided even relates to anything officially announced, and this whole rumor could be fabricated. At the same time, it does sound plausible given that the Switch UI has had a “themes” section for nearly a decade with no updates to it. We know that the Switch 2 dashboard is slightly different from the original console, so maybe Nintendo will capitalize on players wanting to customize their consoles even more with new themes.
