Last week, Nintendo announced that it would be delaying the pre-order date for the Switch 2 in the United States “in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” While the company stressed the console would still be releasing on June 5th, 2025, the recent tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump have thrown the global economy into a downward spiral. At the time, no other regions would experience delays, but that has changed this morning.
As confirmed to outlet MobileSyrup, Nintendo has delayed Switch 2 pre-orders in Canada “in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.”
Much like the statement given by Nintendo of America, Nintendo of Canada’s statement confirms that the launch date won’t be changed. The Nintendo Switch 2 is still set for a global release on June 5th, but it seems the chaos from Trump’s recent tariff rampage is too erratic to anticipate. It could also be that NOA doesn’t want people pre-ordering from Canadian retailers and taking stock away from native Canadians.
Nintendo has promised it will provide information at a later date, but the only thing we hope is that the price won’t climb any higher. In Canada, the console sits at $629 CAD, which is pretty ludicrous.
