One of the biggest mysteries of the Nintendo Switch 2 was the addition of a new C Button on the right Joy-Con and today it’s officially been revealed! A brand new feature called GameChat will be debuting on the Nintendo Switch 2, allowing gamers to talk to friends natively on the console.
Previously, you were only able to talk with other players through the Nintendo Switch Online app, and only with certain games. With GameChat, up to 12 people can utilize the chat feature and up to 4 people can share their screens! The Switch 2 comes equipped with a microphone that is capable of capturing your voice from a distance, as well as isolating it from any background noise.
You’re also able to share your screen with other players, allowing them to see your gameplay and vice versa. This feature isn’t limited to playing the same game as you’re able to play different games entirely while sharing your screen.
GameChat will also be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera (sold separately) and can incorporate players into certain games (like Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV). You’re also able to show yourself while sharing your screen, almost like you’re streaming!
However, to use GameChat, you’ll need to have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. Yet, Nintendo is waving this requirement for nearly the first year of the Nintendo Switch 2. All Nintendo account holders, regardless of membership status, can use GameChat for free until March 31st, 2026.
The C Button will be key to GameChat, pulling up the feature with just one click. GameChat is what Nintendo has desperately needed and a feature that the Nintendo Switch missed out on. It’s an exciting time to be a Nintendo fan!
