Bravely Default stands out as an exceptional RPG on a system that had no shortage. Released on the 3DS in 2012, it was something of a “return to form” for Square Enix, taking plenty of inspiration from classic Final Fantasy titles in terms of structure, story beats, and its job system. What set it apart was its battle system, letting you store or spend actions to subvert turns, as well as some novel StreetPass usage and high production values for the handheld.
Two follow-ups (a direct sequel and a spiritual one) later, the original game is getting an HD remaster as a Switch 2 launch title.
There’s no word on specifics at this time, but the remaster promises updated visuals and new content for the game itself. How it’ll translate those StreetPass features will be interesting to see, but even without that functionality you still have likable characters, a rich “old-school” RPG to dig into, and one hell of a soundtrack to carry the entire experience.
Look forward to Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster when it launches with the Switch 2 on June 5th.
