Alongside the myriad of announcements this morning from the Switch 2 Direct was the confirmation that certain Nintendo Switch titles would be getting enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. First up for the enhancement process are two of the Switch’s biggest titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, both of which will see their Switch 2 Editions arrive alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day, June 5th, 2025.

Both Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will feature enhanced resolution and frame rates, HDR support, and faster loading times. In addition, current players of both games should be able to move over to the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions fairly seamlessly, as both titles will have save data transfer and a second manual save slot, allowing players to start a new game on the enhanced titles if they wish.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will also be getting some external exclusive features by way of the Nintendo Switch Online app (soon to be renamed the Nintendo Switch app) through a new feature called Zelda Notes. Zelda Notes features several options for interacting with your game:

Navigation

The Navigation feature in Zelda Notes will help players locate things like uncleared shrines, unfound Koroks, and more with voice navigation pointing you in the right direction, like a GPS, right from your phone while you play.

Voice Memories

As you explore the world of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, you can come across new Voice Memories from Princess Zelda that will play in Zelda Notes, where you’ll hear Zelda share untold stories and information. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition not only will you be able to find Voice Memories from Princess Zelda, but also from Rauru and Master Kohga. Voice Memories will also be able to be tracked down with the Navigation feature.

Autobuild Sharing

In the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, you’ll also be able to share your Autobuild Blueprints with other players as QR codes, allowing them to easily scan and import new Blueprints into their game for building.

Item sharing

Much like Autobuild Sharing, you can use QR codes in Zelda Notes to share items, weapons, and materials with other players, all they’ll need to do is scan the QR Code you generate to load the shared items into their game.

Photo Studio

The Photo Studio feature will allow players to edit photos taken in game by cropping them or decorationg them with stamps. Players will even be able to use their in-game photos to share QR codes generated for Autobuild Sharing and Item Sharing.

My Play Data

Zelda Notes will also feature a section detailing all of your play data from your save file, things like Enemies Defeated, Treasure Chest Opened, and Rupees Collected will be listed. The full list of stats I spotted in the trailer is below:

  • Time spent in Hyrule
  • Enemies Defeated
  • Treasure Chests Opened
  • Materials Collected
  • Weapons Collected
  • Rupees Collected
  • Energy Cells Consumed
  • Zonai Abilities Used
  • Sage Powers Used

You can even earn in-app medals based on your records, as well as take a look at Global Play Data to see play trends from across the world and see how your stats match up.

Zelda Notes also features a daily bonus to receive different rewards for your adventure, like bonus healing or gifts of different materials.

Finally, Zelda Notes also has an amiibo tracker, allowing you to track how many times you’ve scanned certain Legend of Zelda amiibo. Once you’ve scanned a single amiibo five times, you’ll be gifted an additional scan of that amiibo outside of the usual once-per-day scan limit.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be sold standalone, or, for those who already own the games for Nintendo Switch, a separate Upgrade Pack can be purchased for an unannounced price. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can get the Upgrade Packs for both Zelda titles for no additional cost as soon as they’re available on June 5th.
