In a report from Bloomberg News yesterday afternoon, it has been stated that Nintendo and its investors believe that the Switch 2 could be the biggest console launch in Nintendo’s storied history. Not only would the console release with an unprecedented level of stock, but investors also believe the Switch 2 will be priced at $400+ and could sell rapidly even with a higher price tag. Talk about hype!

Tokyo-based industry watcher Serkan Toto told Bloomberg, “They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price. We can expect a great software lineup in year one, from new Mario Kart and 3D Mario after eight years to Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4. There will also be third-party support from day one, most probably including blockbusters like Call of Duty.” While I’m not sure we’ll see Call of Duty on day one, Microsoft has already stated its intent to bring the franchise to Nintendo’s next platform. Whatever 2025’s Call of Duty winds up being is sure to launch day-and-date on Switch 2.

Toto was among a group of market analysts who believe the Switch 2 will be released at a higher price than the original console. The original Switch retailed for $299 back in March of 2017 and with general inflation and new tariffs on electronics in place, it would be reasonable to expect the Switch 2 to launch at $400 or potentially more. This assumption is backed up by Yijia Zhai of UBS and Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein, workers at two investment firms in the United States. Both analysts expect Nintendo to release the Switch 2 in June with around 6-8 million units of stock available.

Adding further credence to the increase in price, Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda said, “The original Switch’s Nvidia chip is estimated to cost $80 per unit, while the Switch 2’s chip is likely to be in the $130-$150 range. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo goes ahead with $499.” Macquarie Capital analyst Hiroshi Yamashina believes the console will be between $399 and $449.

While a spokesperson for Nintendo declined to comment on the Bloomberg report, a lot of what is being said makes sense. We’ve already heard rumors of Nintendo shipping units to retailers and there’s a Switch 2-related Nintendo Direct planned for April 2nd, 2025. The console is absolutely releasing in 2025 and with all of the information already out there, it would be silly to wait until the Holiday season.
