It’s very bizarre to hear executives from Microsoft talking about the Nintendo Switch 2, but ever since the company’s pivot to multi-platform development took hold, we’ve been hearing more and more from Team Green about games on other platforms. During the Official Xbox Podcast yesterday, Xbox Games Studio head Craig Duncan mentioned how cool it was to see the Switch 2 announcement and how excited he gets by what Nintendo does with its consoles. He also spoke about how good it will be, overall, to have Xbox games on Nintendo’s upcoming console.

“I think it’s good for gamers, it’s good for our studios,” Duncan stated, “our studios make amazing games and we want to give those games the chance to reach the broadest audience possible, so even I think back to when I had my studio head Sea of Thieves hat on, having Sea of Thieves reach multiple platforms, being able to remove barriers, so those players could play together… I just think it’s good for gamers, it’s good to have our games reach more places.”

While Microsoft had previously collaborated with Nintendo to include Banjo and Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and even released a few games throughout the Switch’s lifespan (such as Ori and the Blind Forest, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and Cuphead), it wasn’t until last year that the floodgates were well and truly opened. A quartet of games were ported to Switch and PlayStation 5, and gamers were told more would be coming. More didn’t take very long to happen with Forza Horizon 5 and Age of Mythology: Retold being confirmed for PS5 earlier this year. As for what the Switch 2 will get, we don’t currently know, but it’s a safe bet that something like Doom: The Dark Ages will wind up there.
