This includes the vastly popular Pokémon Trading Card Game, which has been around for nearly 30 years now. The collection potential has made the TCG immensely popular over the years, some might even say too popular in the past several years. With sets selling out almost instantaneously, enthusiasts have had to get creative to keep up with their collections, and that even includes exchanging one of a kind sports memorabilia for them.
Antoine Griezmann, a French soccer player for Atlético Madrid is known for many things, including being an avid collector. While most know this from his collection of sports cards, this passion seems to extend even towards the Pokémon TCG. After a victory against Getafe in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, Griezmann was seen exchanging his jersey for two boxes of Prismatic Evolution Pokémon cards. These jerseys are often priced at upwards of $1,000 online, so to many this seems like a mind-boggling decision, but with how rare these cards have become in recent time, collectors will tell you it may well be worth it.

The Pokémon TCG has seen a major scalping epidemic in recent time, that being the act of buying sets en masse and reselling them for exorbitant prices. This has led to scarcity and even full-on physical conflicts in stores, which led suppliers to further limit their stock for the sake of safety. As a result, the Prismatic Evolution set has become extremely hard to find in a reasonable capacity, and so it’s easy to see now why a collector such as Griezmann would make this trade. It certainly makes for quite a compelling story at the very least, and one that jersey’s new owner will carry with them forever.
