When an opportunity presents itself, people won’t hesitate to pounce on it. With the explosive success of Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, it was inevitable that we’d eventually see people trying to make money off of the game. Recently, a trading feature was added to TCGP and that has opened the floodgates for exploitation from players. Despite developer DeNA listing in its Terms of Service (TOS) that selling cards for actual currency is a violation of its user agreement and even pushing a message to users that it would be cracking down on resellers, listings are running rampant on eBay for digital cards.

While most are coming from a single user, a quick search on eBay will find you practically anything you could want. On the subreddit for Pokémon TGCP, you can find multiple users posting receipts of messages they have received asking for money for cards. Since users can message one another before making any trades, it seems the less scrupulous among us have been using the game as a way to make a quick profit. While the eBay listings aren’t too egregious with regard to cost, it’s still a circumvention and violation of DeNA’s TOS.

This is actually insane lol

For the moment, DeNA’s only response to complaints about the trading feature was a post on Twitter at the end of January. In it, the company wrote, “We are actively investigating ways to improve the feature to address these concerns.” The issue might be too complicated to pin down, so a more permanent solution will likely take time. Hopefully, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket users don’t get fed up while waiting.
