With Nintendo ready to take the world by storm with the release of the Switch 2, it stands to reason that people are eager to learn if some of 2025’s biggest releases will find a home on the portable console. When it comes to Monster Hunter Wilds, arguably Capcom’s biggest game of the year, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto didn’t exactly say no in a recent interview, but did sort of dampen the hope that it will be happening soon.

In a new interview with Spanish outlet GameReactor, Tsujimoto was asked about the possibility of Wilds coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in the future. Short of saying no, Tsujimoto responded, “Of course, in relation to Monster Hunter Wilds platforms, we don’t have anything extra to announce beyond what is already there.” He then explains how Capcom is in the same boat as everyone else in that the announcement is so new that nothing has been done yet with regard to development. “We’d need to take our time in the near future to know exactly the nature of the hardware and how we’re going to best use it,” he said.

Now, some of Tsujimoto’s statement is likely a PR spin from Capcom. With no games having been officially announced for the Switch 2 (even if Playtonic is being coy with Yooka-Re-Playlee and its generic “Nintendo” platform branding), it’s very possible that no one in the industry can announce something before Nintendo. Capcom has been a big partner of Nintendo’s for years now and Monster Hunter was even once exclusive to Nintendo’s platforms. If any studio would have a development kit early, it would be Capcom.

On the other hand, it could be the case that Tsujimoto is telling the truth. With rumors pointing to the Switch 2 releasing sometime in the summer, there is every chance that no one has development kits yet save for Nintendo’s internal studios. Nintendo’s first-party studios would clearly get priority, so maybe third parties haven’t had the chance to go hands-on with the final hardware. Even so, I can’t imagine Capcom would leave money on the table by keeping Wilds off the Switch 2 if the console can actually run it.

Anything could be true here, but I’d still put money on Monster Hunter Wilds being announced for Switch 2 during April 2025’s Nintendo Direct stream. I’m a believer that it will be a launch game for the platform.
