After five seasons, MultiVersus will be shutting down again, this time for good. Last week, the MultiVersus developers posted an update on the game’s social media accounts letting fans know the fate of the game.

The game will continue until the end of Season 5, which will be on May 30th, 2025. After this, players are able to continue playing offline if they have downloaded the game and a new update that is being pushed. After May 30th, no new downloads will be available and if players haven’t done the two required steps, they will be unable to play.
MultiVersus was touted as a rival to Super Smash Bros., featuring Warner Bros. and DC characters battling on locations from various franchises. First released in July 2022 as an open beta, MultiVersus was initially a hit but quickly lost its player base as fans were put off by various factors such as lack of new content and delay of updates or patches.
While developers initially announced the open beta as the launch, Warner Bros. made the unprecedented move to take the game offline completely on June 25th, 2023, coming back nearly a year later on May 28th, 2024. Many count this move as the nail in the coffin, as things were never the same upon the new launch. The game was plagued with complaints over the monetization, comparing it to a gacha game.
MultiVersus will be shutting down less than a year after its official launch. You have just a few months to download the game if you’d like to continue playing after May 30th, but keep in mind that any purchases such as the battle pass (which unlocks Aquaman) have been disabled as of last week.
