Of all of the Nintendo merchandise available out there, amiibo may be some of the most iconic in recent times. For those who collect amiibo as a hobby, this past year has been incredible in terms of restocks. So many rare figures have been re-released for MSRP, including Zelda series amiibo. Most recently, the Link’s Awakening Link amiibo and the Wind Waker Zelda amiibo have been made available for pre-order.

Both the Link and Zelda amiibo are up for pre-order on Best Buy at the new standard price of $15.99. They’re set for release on September 26th, 2024, which may sound familiar to those keeping up with upcoming Nintendo releases. Indeed, that also happens to be the release date of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom which was revealed in June. This is certainly not a coincidence either, and the implications that come from this are interesting to say the least.

The first thing anyone likely noticed about Echoes of Wisdom is that it features the same artstyle as the Link’s Awakening remake. Confirmation that Echoes of Wisdom features amiibo support led many to believe that it would feature a use for the Link’s Awakening Link amiibo, which is one of the two that was restocked. With this in mind, it was suspected that a Zelda amiibo in the same style was in the works, however given the restock of the Wind Waker Zelda amiibo, this may not be the case. While it could still happen of course, the fact that Wind Waker Zelda, the closest analog to the Echoes of Wisdom style that already exists, was reprinted suggests that that amiibo will be serving the role instead of a brand new one.

At the end of the day though, this is all speculation. One alternative way to look at this is that an Echoes of Wisdom Zelda amiibo may be in the works, but won’t be available on release day. Therefore, Wind Waker Zelda would be restocked so that amiibo functionality is available from day one regardless. This certainly seems less likely, but still entirely plausible. Either way, there’s no way to know for sure until September rolls around, so stay tuned until then and don’t forget to pick up any of these restocks you’re interested in.
