While undoubtedly best known for developing the Pokémon series, Game Freak has been experimenting with other IP for over a decade now. Their latest idea, developed by WonderPlanet Inc., is the mobile sailing RPG Pand Land, and it has more than a few bits of DNA in common with their mega franchise.

For starters there’s the most obvious – the art style is incredibly reminiscent of the blocky Pokémon Quest, previously released for mobile and Switch. That’s not all, though, as it appears Ken Sugimori is on art duties for the drawn artwork of each character.

As for the gameplay, you’ll be able to form a team from over 400 characters and treasures to explore an expansive world solo or with friends.

Pand Land has yet to get a release date but it’s currently available for pre-registration on iOS and Google Play. Currently it is only planned for release in Japan but we’ll have to wait and see if it sails overseas.
