As I’m sure anyone with a pulse can tell you, Fortnite is pretty massive. It’s so massive, in fact, that we’ve seen Epic Games’ battle royale title practically become a melting pot of every creative IP of the last 100 years. Players can don skins with characters from John Wick, Family Guy, The Avengers, Halo, God of War, Street Fighter, and more. It has become such a gigantic force within the games industry that you’d think Nintendo would have already negotiated with Epic to have its characters in the game. Well… let’s just say that Nintendo is going to Nintendo.

According to a new report from Stephen Totilo, we nearly had Samus in Fortnite, but Nintendo declined the offer. The reason? Samus would have to appear on other platforms and Nintendo isn’t about that. Cue the “Price is Right” losing tune. How did this information get out? Well, Totilo was able to interview Donald Mustard, Epic’s ex-CCO, and Mustard spilled the beans.

Much of this information about Samus in Fortnite was revealed during Epic and Apple’s lawsuit, but it’s nice to get confirmation from someone so closely related to Fortnite. The details from the court case could have been merely plans that never came to fruition or ideas that one of the artists tried to make happen. Either way, don’t expect any Nintendo characters to appear in Fortnite in the future unless the apocalypse starts to happen.
