The fervour for Nintendo’s next console is reaching a peak right now, with rumors abound that a new system will launch next year, succeeding the immensely popular Nintendo Switch.

Naturally fans have been turning to patents to get an idea of what could be in store and recently Nintendo delivered a boatload of fresh patents that have gotten people talking.

Perhaps the most notable patent is for a dual-screened device where the top screen would rotate into position, unlike the clam-shell design of the Nintendo DS family. This would essentially mean the device would look like a smartphone when folded.

The other patents are less interesting – a heat exhaust unit, what appears to be face plate customization, and a renewal of the Joy-Con patent.

Of course it’s worth taking these with a grain of salt, as is always the case with patents, as it is common for companies to patent any casual idea, even if they do not plan on actioning it into an actual product.

Still, we’ll be sure to bring you all the latest Nintendo Switch successor news as it comes in.
