It’s time for the most thrilling and shocking part of the pre-release movie info gathering cycle: getting movie ratings (for North America). It’s always a rush to find out whether a movie will be a tame PG-13, a visceral R, or even all the way up to a scandalous NC-17, a rating that definitely still happens for mainstream movies sometimes. Well, now we know what the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie will be rated — a scintillating, scandalous… PG rating. Oh me oh my!

PG (Parental Guidance) is of course the second lightest rating after G (General Audience), usually given to movies with any amount of edge on them at all. I’m talking about like, fart jokes, action scenes (regardless of bloodlessness), or anything else that might make the most puritanical old lady in the country clutch her pearls and faint due to The Vapors. Of course, everybody has different things they do or don’t want their kids to be seeing, so use discretion if you’re concerned. The Mario movie is rated PG for “action and mild violence,” which we presume will be on the level of a Mario game.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie releases April 7th, 2023.
