Given the success of the two Sonic the Hedgehog movies it’s no surprise Sega is planning further cinematic adventures, though the next IP to hit the silver screen likely aren’t the ones you’d expect to see.
In a recent announcement, Sega confirmed a partnership with PictureStart to produce movies based on Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone.

Space Channel 5 is a rhythm game series that made its debut on the Dreamcast, starring the space television reporter Ulala. Comix Zone, meanwhile, is a classic Sega Genesis beat’em up where you battle through the panels of a comic book.
As for PictureStart, it was a multimedia company founded by Erik Feig, a producer of La La Land, the Twilight series, and more. Other projects in the company’s pipeline include Borderlands, Naruto, and Animorphs.
We’ll just have to wait and see how these movies turn out but it’s sure to be an interesting journey.
