Final Fantasy X is arguably the entry most influenced by Japanese aesthetics in the entire franchise, so this latest announcement isn’t too much of a surprise but it’s still interesting.

As Siliconera reports, TBS will be partnering with Square Enix to produce a kabuki theater show based on the classic PlayStation 2 game. The show will star Kikunosuke Onoe V, presumably in the role of Tidus, and he will also be the director and planner.

A teaser has been released below, briefly showing a Zanarkand set.

The Final Fantasy X kabuki adaptation will arrive at the IHI Stage Around Tokyo in Toyosu in spring of 2023.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
