In a feat of masochism so intense it somehow loops around to not being masochistic at all, Brazilian Twitch streamer Rickfernello has completed the most brutal mountain climb of all – beating masterfully difficult platformer Celeste without dying once.
After a whole year, and after over 600 hours of practice, I finally did.
The world's first Celeste 100% deathless run! This was definitely the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Thank you everyone on this community for always being so kind to me.@celeste_game pic.twitter.com/RCoQHLnA0U

This feat, much like Madeline’s metaphorical surmounting of mental health ills and gender dysphoria, is positively monumental, taking hundreds of hours of practice to bring to fruition. And if that wasn’t enough, he got all the fruit – every single strawberry was collected. 100%. Celeste is a game that is literally designed both ludically and narratively around the prospect of failing over and over again, but even in the act of bypassing that its meaning is somehow stronger than ever. Some gaming accomplishments deserve a pat on the back; this one is worthy of a trophy.
Congratulations, Rickfernello. You reached the summit.
