Due to the global pandemic, sports stadiums have taken a massive hit as stands are no longer being occupied by the usual thousands of dedicated fans. However, that has not stopped teams from packing the seats on their own home turf with cardboard cutouts to fulfill the feeling of a live audience. National Football League team The Detroit Lions have seemingly shelled out a nice sum of bells to keep a portion of chairs throughout their upcoming games filled with various cast members from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Big shout out to @animalcrossing for holding it down while we wait to have you all back with us @fordfield. Yes, yes❗️ #AnimalCrossing pic.twitter.com/q2lH6zLR58

As the video accompanied by the Mii Channel theme showcases on their official Twitter, all sorts of villagers have been adapted into high-quality 2D cutouts including the customizable player character, Tom Nook, Audie, Jay, and K.K. Slider. The Animal Crossing fan section isn’t a big surprise for the Lions, as earlier this year they used Animal Crossing: New Horizons to announce their schedule for the 2020 – 2021 season. There’s still plenty of time left in the season for the Lions (and their social media team) to figure out what other Animal Crossing references they can incorporate into their games.
Are you a fan of the Detroit Lions? Be sure to keep an eye out for some of these characters when watching them play future games at Detroit’s very own Ford Field. Maybe we’ll see Franklin appear later this month!
