Mini presentations and occasional surprise announcements aside, it’s been so long since we saw a full-fledged Nintendo Direct. It’s understandable, given how the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown many wrenches in the works, but we can’t help but wonder just what Nintendo has been working on throughout the silence. Thanks to a recent update on Nintendo’s website, we do have a hint – albeit a very small one – of a new project entering development.

According to a recent job listing on Nintendo’s website, the company is currently looking for a level designer for some new, unannounced 2D action games. Applicants are expected to create “specifications for objects placed in game courses” at Nintendo’s Tokyo offices.

A “2D action game” is a fairly vague description; it could refer to many of Nintendo’s existing IPs, or it could be something completely new. Of course, a new Mario, Yoshi, or Wario game comes to mind. A 2D Metroid game isn’t out of the question either!
