As reported by NintendoSoup, some Nintendo fans will have to start double and triple checking digital purchases and software updates for their Nintendo 3DS and Wii U units. Last month it was reported that select Latin American and Caribbean countries would have eShop service shuttered on July 31st. Don’t worry, Mexico and Brazil are exempt from this and will continue to have service. Yet, this closure has now extended to more countries, mainly those where Nintendo’s products are distributed by Maxsoft.

Announced on Maxsoft’s official Facebook page, 3DS and Wii U owners in Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) will see their eShop service end on July 31st as well. Below is the transcribed image that is posted on Maxsoft’s region locked Facebook page:

Nintendo 3DS Limited eShop Closure (Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE)

In Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and UAE, limited Nintendo eShops functions has been available for the Nintendo 3DS family systems. Those limited Nintendo eShops will close on July 31, 2020 and users in the affected regions will no longer be able to access the Nintendo eShops. We encourage the users to take any such actions before the closure date to update your software or to re-download any previously preinstalled software if necessary. We would like to truly thank everyone for using the limited Nintendo eShops and for being such great fans of Nintendo.

What to do

We recommend that you take the following action on your Nintendo 3DS before the closure date of July 31, 2020:

  • Redownload any previously-preinstalled software from the Nintendo eShop
  • Check the Nintendo eShop for any available updates to software you own

We’ll continue to follow this story if more countries join this July 31st service end date.
