Services for Nintendo’s Wii U have been phased out slowly since the release of the Nintendo Switch. Of course, these shutdowns have varied by country and have followed through with the announced “ending of service” dates. The Hulu app for Japanese Nintendo Wii U owners has broken this by suddenly shutting down three months ahead of schedule.
Noted and translated by Cheesemeister on Twitter, this decision was due to a playback error.
Hulu on #WiiU in Japan met an undignified end yesterday. Service was scheduled to end on 7/24, but a fix for the playback issue that arose on 4/10 didn’t have an ETA. As a result, service ended on 4/30. One-month vouchers were offered in recompense. pic.twitter.com/UlAFUnmBgY

Since the app is shutting down in three months, combined with quarantine and work from home orders, there was a chance that the error wouldn’t be fixed before its out of service date. Hulu has posted a formal announcement about the closure on their Information page as well as details to cancel a Hulu subscription and a list of devices that can stream Hulu’s content.
