It may have leaked early, but now it’s official – WayForward is working on a new entry in the River City/Kunio-kun series in collaboration with Arc System Works.

There isn’t much information yet, but a press release states that the companies will “leverage the strengths of each studio and bring together a wealth of knowledge, an abundance of passion, and 60 combined years of video game experience across a wide range of technologies, genres, and intellectual properties.”

According Arc System Works producer Takomi Kaneko, it was WayForward’s enthusiasm for a female protagonist that won them over. In recent years River City has had something of a revival, with various titles in the sports and RPG genres.

We’ll learn more about River City Girls later this year.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
