There’s something sort of bittersweet about eating food that’s based off your favorite franchises. On one hand, it’s always fun to try recipes from your favorite shows and video games, but when the food actually looks like the series’ characters… that’s a different story.
That’s why I’m always so conflicted when I see Pokémon based food as good as this.
The issue with Pokémon is that, because of their generally simplistic and often adorable designs, the creatures translate to a food based medium really well. And I’ve seen some cooks and bakers get really creative with their execution of the idea of bringing Pokémon to the table… literally. Instagram user @yu.pikachuu1202 has tons of Pokémon content on their account, but more recently has been posting some really amazing images of food that represents ‘mons like Pikachu, Eevee, and Bulbasaur.
And while the idea of cutting or biting into these plates so that I can actually eat what’s on them is a little heartbreaking… I’ve gotta appreciate the clear effort and creativity that goes into crafting this kind of thing.
The food pictured here on the account is actually something you can experience for yourself, too! Instead of just being a one-off recipe, all this food actually comes from the menu of the Pokémon Cafe. A restaurant in Tokyo, this place serves everything with a Pokémon twist, and the pictures you can find online from the experience definitely make it seem like it’s worth it.
If you’re in the Tokyo area or planning to go soon, you might want to try and get a highly sought after reservation to try this all for yourself!
