With the recent addition of friends and trading, Pokémon GO has felt more social than it has in a long time. Now a new element of that has come to light via the official Niantic Pokémon GO blog: Lucky Pokémon!

When a Pokémon gets traded, there’s now a chance it will gain a sparkle effect and it’ll take less Stardust to power them up. It’s the perfect reminder of an exchange between friends or a long sought swap, and your Pokédex will even keep track of it too.

There’s no definitive word on how it works, but it seems having a Pokémon in storage for a long time ups the chance of their Lucky awakening once they’re traded. It’s no hard, fast rule but it’s something.

Now even those who’ve somehow caught ‘em all have a reason to trade. It’s been a great spur of growth for the game lately, and now with some extra Lucky surprises waiting it’s hopefully only going to get bigger and better.
