Just yesterday Square Enix and Disney showed off the latest footage of the eagerly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 3 at the latest D23 Japan Expo. While the game is still unfortunately skipping Switch from the look of things, a rather cute Nintendo reference has been spotted.
At some point in the game Sora will go 2D and enter a retro Game & Watch-styled device based on the 1933 Mickey Mouse short Giantland. You can even see Mickey poking his head out from behind the curtain.
Considering Mickey Mouse saw a licensed Game & Watch game during the ’80s it’s a pretty cool reference to an obscure bit of history!
Here’s hoping Kingdom Hearts doesn’t stay gone from Nintendo systems for long.
