Nintendo of America wouldn’t be the same without Reggie. He kicks ass, takes names, and has found a place in the hearts of Nintendo fans everywhere. In honor of the legend’s 56th birthday, let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at some of his most memorable appearances over the years. (Reggie takes the stage at the 6:57 mark in the video below.)
Enter the Reggie
Reggie made his first major public appearance at E3 2004, and boy was it a doozy! Not only was Reggie making the announcement of one of the most successful consoles in history, the Nintendo DS, but he also announced The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in one of the most electrifying moments in Nintendo’s history.
Reggie and Iwata Settle it in Smash
Ten years after his first appearance at E3, Reggie returned to battle it out with the late (and great) Satoru Iwata. Not only was the choreographed fight amazing, but we also got one of our first looks at amiibo and how they function in Super Smash Bros.
Reggie Fils-A-Mech
Reggie teamed up with the talented folks at Mega64 to announce the Smash Bros. Invitational at E3 2014. A robotic Reggie stalked the halls of Nintendo of America to steal some of the company’s biggest secrets.
My Body is Ready
Probably one of Reggie’s most famous quotes, “My body is ready,” has become a go-to phrase for Nintendo fans everywhere. First uttered at Nintendo’s 2007 E3 press event, it has spread far and wide online. Five years later, Reggie took to the E3 stage again to, this time, unveil Wii Fit U. It was only fitting for Reggie to utter those magic words one more time.
Happy Birthday, Reggie!
With so many memories over the years, all of us at Nintendo Wire couldn’t imagine Nintendo without the amazing Reggie Fils-Aimé. Thanks you for everything you’ve done for such an amazing company. Happy birthday, Reggie!
