The 3DS version of Super Mario Maker was revealed a couple months back during a Nintendo Direct, but among the game’s rather long list of seemingly missing features compared to the Wii U version was amiibo compatibility. It appeared that the 3DS port would be missing one of the original’s more interesting features… until now, as the game has been listed on Nintendo’s website as amiibo compatible.

While this is exciting news, it’s worth noting that we don’t know exactly what the amiibo will do in-game. It’s easy to presume that they’ll function similarly as the Wii U version, where they unlocked costumes based on the amiibo tapped, but it’s unclear. We’ll be sure to provide full details whenever they come in.
