SEGA has unveiled new details regarding the upcoming 3DS title Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice. Releasing on September 27th, SEGA describes the new game as the “premiere Sonic title of the year.” Fire and Ice will be showing at E3 this year, and fans are hopeful it will be a better experience than the past games in the Sonic Boom series. According to SEGA, Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice will “deliver all-new fire and ice gameplay elements that enables players to run through the game at top speed, or take their time with deeper exploration and puzzle play.”

Since 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, SEGA is packing in a little bonus with the new game. The retail package will include three episodes of the highly popular animated series set in the same world as the Sonic Boom games, so buyers of the game will also be able to watch three fan favorite episodes with the included DVD.

It appears the new 3DS title is all SEGA will be bringing to E3 in terms of the Blue Blur. For those of you waiting for a new main series Sonic title, SEGA is holding a 25th anniversary party in late July at the House of Blues in San Diego. Both SEGA and the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account have teased that something big will be revealed at this party, and due to cryptic tweets discussing new Sonic trailers and game development, many speculate the next entry in the main series could be revealed this summer. Considering Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice is the premiere title for this year, we may have to wait a little longer to see the next generation of our favorite hedgehog.
