New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a game about collecting coins. All Super Mario games are, to some extent, but this game in particular goes to great and unique lengths to fill Mario’s pockets with as much shiny treasure as possible. To the extent that there are multiple powerups designed around coin collection and a running tally of every coin collected on the game’s title screen.
That’s what makes a feat performed by redditor someguy2988 so impressive. He managed to play through the game, in its entirety, without picking up a single coin. He backs up his claim with not only a screenshot of the final save file and coin tally, but a series of YouTube videos chronicling most of the arduous adventure – with the rest coming soon.
Mario’s gonna have to stick to his day job with this guy at the helm.
