Last week, a few images popped up around the internet that seemed to be very similar to an image that accompanied a Nintendo patent that was filed earlier this year. Many assumed that these images were those of the controller for the highly anticipated NX, though we never reported on it because of a lack of evidence. The rumor has now been debunked, with the images proven to be false, but just today Reddit user perkele37 posted a few more images that very well could be a look at the NX’s controller.
Supposedly, perkele37 has access to development hardware, which wouldn’t surprise me after taking a look at these images. If they are real, they’re still very similar to the patent image the old photos were compared to. Perkele37 also provided us with a few bits of information that, though unconfirmed, are worth mentioning.
- Only the upper ‘nubs’ of the sticks move. The bottom part is static (kind of like the circle pad, but it moves along the bottom ‘sphere’.
- The rollers on the top feel and look pretty much identical to a mouse scroll-wheel. Though I do don’t believe this will be the final design.
- Haptic feedback is feels like Apples ‘taptic’ engine. Not like regular rumble.
- 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom.
There’s no guarantee that this is the NX controller, and if it is, it may not even be the final design. However, these images are noticeably more realistic than the previously debunked ones, and we can’t deny that the design at least looks sleek. Whether these are real or not, they’re worth taking a look at, to say the least.
What do you think about these? Real or fake? And, if real, does it look and sound like something you could get behind? Let us know with a comment!
