The Game Developers Conference has been underway for a few days now, and last night they held the yearly Game Developers Choice Awards. In a touching moment, this room full of industry pros paid tribute to one of the most influential men in gaming history: Satoru Iwata, who sadly passed away in July of last year.

The tribute took the form of a short but sweet animation, taking viewers on a journey through just a small part of Iwata’s lasting legacy, from Balloon Fight to the Wii. Give it a look:

That final line, “in my heart, I am a gamer”, is from Iwata’s 2005 GDC Keynote. The tribute was quickly followed up by a long, standing ovation from the room full of game developers, highlighting just how important Iwata was, and still is, to the industry at large.
