To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Pokémon games, Nintendo will be hosting a Pokémon themed Splatfest next week!
The news was shared via the official Splatoon Tumblr. The event will begin on February 19th at 10:00 p.m. PST and end on February 20th at 10:00 p.m. PST. The Splatfest will have gamers swear their allegiance to either Pokémon Red or Pokémon Blue in a competition to see which version of the game is superior. However, for fans living in Japan the Splatfest will pair Pokémon Red and Green against one another. (Japan received Pokémon Red and Green as opposed to other countries which got Red and Blue.)
The competition will be held around the world but will be separated by region. This means that players will only be paired up against other players in their respective region. To help build the hype for the showdown, the Nintendo of America twitter page tweeted out a poll to see which game was more popular.
This news, along with the release of a new Pokémon Red and Blue themed New 3DS, promotional freebies at Toys“R”Us, merchandise, and so much more, ensure that this will be the perfect birthday bash to celebrate the iconic franchise.
